Adult Ministry

With so many families a part of our community, we have found that adults (parents, single, and non-parents) need to have some times where they can worship and enjoy adult company. At Atonement, we try and mix in adult events with their interests in mind.

MORNING PRAYER – First Wednesdays at 9:00 AM

The “early birds” have spoken! Must be 7:30 AM is just a wee too early to gather for prayer, so we will only meet at 9:00 AM for the time being, as always on the first Wednesday of every month. We gather each month for a half hour or so of readings and reflection, meditation and prayer in the Prayer Room. Please join us. It’s a gentle way to begin your day.

“Lunch and Laughter” – Second Wednesdays at Noon

There is plenty of room for YOU at our lunch table! Bring a sandwich to share and we will add it to our tasting platter. If you can help round out the lunch with a side dish or simple dessert, please note what you will bring on the sign-up sheet in the Narthex. We will provide the chips and beverages.

New for Fall: Lunch will begin at noon followed by a speaker closer to 1:00 p.m. Lunchers are not required to stay for the speaker. And folks who just want to come for the speaker don’t have to come for lunch. But why not? We all need to eat and we do have a lot of fun!

October 14 Presentation: Stormwater Pollution & Building a Green Infrastructure

Have you ever wondered what happens with that soapy water that runs down your driveway after you’ve washed your car? Or the rain or snow melt from your roof? What on earth is a rain garden? Why would you use a rain barrel and how do you get one? And what have they been doing along Monroe Avenue in Brighton to reconstruct sidewalks and green space….and why? Caroline Kilmer from Monroe County’s Stormwater Coalition will answer these questions and more. You won’t want to miss this!

If you need transportation, call the office at 442-1018 and we will work on securing you a ride.

November 1: Being a Good Steward of the Earth. Our own Margy Peet will talk about what the organization Color Brighton Green does, and will share ways you can recycle and generally live lightly on the earth.

December 9: Swedish Smorgasbord & St. Lucia Presentation. Be our guests for a lunch of traditional Swedish Christmas food (prepared by Pastor Gail and Deb Johnson) …and a presentation on St. Lucia, the beloved saint of Sweden.

  Conference on Prayer

Many of you will recall the conferences we hosted a few years back. Filled with inspiring speakers and workshops and joyful worship, these conferences provided us an opportunity to share, learn and grow in our prayer lives.

This all-day event will begin with morning prayer and a keynote speaker. We hope to have an announcement for you very soon about our keynote speaker and the conference theme. Attendees will pre-register for one of four concurrent workshops in the morning, and one in the afternoon. Watch this space for the date in April of 2015. The registration fee for the conference will be $30 and will include lunch and break beverages, as well as all conference materials. If you would like to be part of the conference planning process, or perhaps volunteer for the day at registration, help in the bookstore, or help with lunch, please let me know.
